About this deal

As we've come to expect with the IXUS range, there's no concession to a handgrip provided here and fingers do tend to skate around a bit on the smooth pebble-like surface. We found ourselves naturally steadying the camera in both hands, but when doing so the thumb comes to rest on the left hand side of the LCD screen smearing it with fingerprints. Despite this we were able to get surprisingly sharp results at maximum telephoto however. Canon IXUS 255 HS Digital Compact Camera". Canon Europe. Archived from the original on 3 November 2013 . Retrieved 30 July 2013. Another maximum wide angle shot of a closer subject with plenty of inherent detail which will give a better impression of the crispness captured in the 115 HS’ 12 megapixel shots. Although admittedly the wall is fairly well worn, we’re not seeing obvious barrel distortion at this range.

The Canon IXUS 115 HS’ power switch is level with the top plate to prevent accidental activation when generally handling the camera. Give this a press and with a sprightly chirp the camera bursts into life, readying itself for action in just over a second, which is fairly speedy for a camera of this calibre. All images here are the original camera JPEG with original Exif information, unmodified except for lossless rotation. Among the same effects filters, accessed with a press of the function button if the camera is in program mode, is this increasingly ubiquitous miniature mode that, which narrows the portion of the image in focus to a central band and ramps up the colour saturation, ‘shrinking’ the subject to make it appear as if it’s on a toy town scale, as here.

Conclusion

This section needs to be updated. The reason given is: It's missing info about the video recording specifications and the PowerShot Digital ELPH 360 HS (a successor to 340 HS model), which was also released in 5 January 2016, alongside 190 IS model. It has a 20.2 MP CMOS sensor with 12x optical zoom and 1080p FullHD video capabilities as opposed to ELPH 190IS model. For more info, see: [1]. Please help update this article to reflect recent events or newly available information. ( March 2019) Also available are dedicated scene modes for photographing children and pets, a smart shutter mode that uses face detection to take shots automatically, high speed burst mode (8.2 fps, with a resolution drop to three megapixels) and best image selection (with resolution drop again), handheld night scene, low light mode, plus aforementioned digital effects including fisheye, miniature (for stills as well as video), toy camera, monochrome, super vivid, and faded poster effect. Furthermore individual colours can be highlighted and swapped. We then get individual scene modes covering beach photography, underwater snaps (there are a couple of waterproof case options available for the IXUS), foliage, snow, fireworks, more unusually for an ‘auto everything’ camera a long exposure mode for dark subjects, plus two stitch assist modes for shooting panoramas (panning left to right and vice versa).

Noise is handled really well by the 115 HS throughout the range of ISOs available. There is barely any noticeable noise at ISO100 and ISO200. As expected, it steadily worsens as the ISO level is increased, but even at ISO3200 you still get an image that would be suitable for a large sized print. Canon IXUS 300 HS Digital Compact Camera". At both ends of the lens the 115 HS produces images which retain plenty of detail throughout the images. The digital zoom is fine for shooting images that are for small prints or use on the web. Thanks to the 3cm minimum focusing distance the camera takes excellent macro pictures, such as the Daffodil below.Canon PowerShot SD40: Digital Photography Review". Dpreview.com. 14 September 2006. In 2010, Canon dropped the prefix "Digital" as well as suffix "IS" ( Image Stabilization) from the names of the new models e.g. IXUS 105. [6] A similar change was applied to the IXY-series names used in the Japanese market. [7] The United States market naming was simplified in 2011: "Digital" and "IS" were removed as well as "SD" prefix. [8] Newer US and European model carry "HS" suffix, that stands for "high sensitivity". Canon Digital IXUS 400 Digital Compact Camera". Canon Europe. 23 September 2009. Like its sibling IXUS models, here we have a display of lovely natural colours from the 115 HS in this also crisply detailed extreme close up shot; those who do purely want to point and shoot and get decent results without spending a lot up from could do far worse than consider this budget model.
