About this deal

Admittedly, we weren’t expecting much of a difference in performance considering that the design of earbuds haven’t really changed that much. We were wrong. Thanks to some new tuning, the Google Pixel Buds Series-A have much better bass response, which makes them a real step up in terms of sound quality from the Google Pixel Buds 2. To charge your Pixel Buds charging case, plug the charging case into a power source using the included USB-A to USB-C® cable. The USB port is located on the bottom of the charging case. The first-generation Pixel Buds consist of two earbuds linked by a fabric-covered cord, which connect wirelessly over a Bluetooth 4.2 connection. [10] The earbuds are an "open-air" design, where the driver rests just outside the user's ear canal, and there is relatively little isolation from outside sounds. [10] Each earbud is secured physically into the user's concha by a short loop of the cord; the length of the loop is individually adjustable to better fit each user. [11] The earbuds are powered by a 120mA-hr battery stored in the left earbud, [12] and provide five hours of listening time before needing to be recharged. [13] a b c Martonik, Andrew (June 9, 2021). The Pixel Buds charging case has two lights, one inside the case between the earbuds and one on the front of the case near the USB port: Peters, Jay (August 20, 2020). The second-generation Pixel Buds also featured hands-free Google Assistant activation; instead of having to tap and hold, users could use the voice prompt "Hey Google" to bring up the Assistant. Overall, the sound quality is much, much better than before, but there’s still some room to grow. They can still be a bit fatiguing to listen to for long periods of time – and we only liked listening to them in short bursts for that reason – but we didn’t have nearly as much to critique with these as we had with the Google Pixel Buds 2. Case status light (outside light): The light located outside the case near the USB port will indicate battery levels of the Pixel Buds charging case itself when plugged in or when the lid is open. If there is no light, there is not enough battery to charge the earbuds.

Should you buy the Google Pixel Buds A-Series?

Google's wireless earbuds are, of course, aimed first and foremost at Google and Android phones, but they work perfectly well with iOS products, tablets, laptops and the like. With non-Android kit though, you won’t be able to use the Google Assistant that brings so much to the Pixel Buds party. Physically, the earbuds have removed the "stabilizer arc" that is used on both the second-generation and A-Series Pixel Buds; the Pro earbuds sit deeper in the wearer's cavum to overcome the Pro's increased size resulting from the larger battery and acoustic elements required for ANC. [57] Each earbud has a silicone tip designed to slide into the user's ear canal, providing some passive noise cancellation. Pixel Buds charging case battery is less than 20% (less than one full charge left for the earbuds).

Pros: small, stable, open fit with eartip, good sound, good case, solid battery life, good gestures, Fast Pair, Google Assistant, USB-C, AAC. One of my favorite things about the Google Pixel Buds is the charging case. It has a nice, smooth matte texture to it, which feels better in the hand, as it provides some grip. I also enjoy the fact that it looks like a pebble. The Pixel Buds charging case can charge via USB-C, or you can charge wirelessly (without paying as much for AirPods with the wireless charging case). In terms of battery life, the Google Pixel Buds A-Series offer a bit of an improvement. According to Google, you’re looking at five hours of listening time and up to two-and-a-half hours of talk time, as opposed to the three hours of listening time that we got from the Google Pixel Buds 2. We’ll still need to put them through a few recharge cycles ourselves to see how this number holds up, but it is very promising. The A-Series support Google’s Fast Pair with Android devices but can be paired with Apple devices and Windows PCs, too. They support Bluetooth 5 with the universal SBC and AAC audio standards used by most devices. They only connect to one device at a time but each earbud can be used on its own. The Bluetooth connection to a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and iPhone 12 Pro was solid at home and on a fairly quiet street. Testing in congested areas was not possible, however, because of the Covid-19 situation in the UK. Kerns, Taylor (June 2, 2022). "Google Pixel Buds Pro: A buyer's guide to Google's best earbuds".
