The Legion 5 15 Gen.6 focuses on the core components of a gaming laptops and offers plenty of performance with a fast 165 Hz display. The problems with the automatic graphics switching are annoying though and should be fixed as soon as possible.

The one thing that’s missing on this model is the kill switch on the right side of the laptop, like on other Legion models this year. Instead, there’s a physical shutter on the webcam itself. Better than nothing, but I prefer the kill switch since it completely disables it, including the audio. There are also choices of GPUs from an Nvidia GeForce RTX3050 all the way up to an RTX 3070 for this model. In terms of its gaming experience, this laptop can be considered as an excellent machine. However, there is more to this device than just its gaming performance as the Ryzen 7 5800H and 16GB of RAM (3200MHz) is obviously great for other productivity applications too. As for the battery, the Legion 5 Pro has a respectable 80 Whr battery that can last for 6 hours and 15 minutes. Overall, it is a great device to be explored, depending on the need and preference of the user. The Legion 5 Pro has an 80Whr battery, which is a pretty decent size. My only hangup is actually the size. Keep in mind, I’m coming from a 2019 Razer Blade 15, so while I really appreciate the portability and build quality of the Razer laptops, I am also a little envious of the better performance of higher TGP cards available in devices such as this Legion 5 Pro. But this laptop is over a pound heavier than what I’m used to carrying around, so it’s taking me a while to decide if it’s right for me. I should be getting the new Razer Blade 14 in for review soon, so perhaps I’ll decide then.

If you’re dead set on getting a 17” screen and like the Legion series over everything else, I’d say this is a good buy at the 3050 and 3060 price points. But if you’re interested in getting the 3070 model I have on hand, I’d caution you against buying this unless you get a decent sale. It’s a little small though, and being on a 17” model really makes it stand out as a missed opportunity. This is yet another area that Lenovo got lazy on, probably due to cost and the fact that the 17” models aren’t popular enough to warrant more customized components.

Cinebench is often a good predictor of our Handbrake video-editing trial, another tough, threaded workout that's highly CPU-dependent and scales well with cores and threads. In it, we put a stopwatch on test systems as they transcode a standard 12-minute clip of 4K video (the open-source Blender demo movie Tears of Steel ) to a 1080p MP4 file. It's a timed test, and lower results are better. As for external temperatures of the chassis, I took a number of measurements while using the laptop normally, and again while gaming for an extended period. See below for my results:
