About this deal

Of the two Rhodes, I was always partial to the Mk. 1 because of its rounded warmth. The CP’s version does not disappoint, recapturing that sound beautifully and immediately evoking some of my favorite Steely Dan hits. The Mk. 2 preset also nails the character of that iteration, with its emphasis on the tines. The Wurly had me jamming out old Queen and Supertramp classics with glee.

John, Preshan (1 November 2015). "Review: Yamaha Reface Mini-Keyboards". audiotechnology.com . Retrieved 26 February 2023. The keyboard is small and may not be to everyone's liking but it's got midi in/out so I don't see a problem with that. The keyboard isn't poor quality though, it's actually quite good, just a bit small and limited in range. USB. Connect a USB cable to send and receive MIDI over USB to a Mac, a Windows PC, or an iOS or iPad device. Sonically, we're happy to report the Reface CP is pretty impressive. Sure, you only have a three-octave velocity- sensitive keyboard (though one that feels very nice as it stands) but connect a sustain pedal and a weighted controller and use it as a sound module and you'll likely be very happy with the all-round authenticity and response of the onboard pianos.

Users that need a starter keyboard– the CP delivers five vintage electric piano sounds (plus the toy piano sound) for less than the cost of one of the originals.

Yamaha Reface is a series of four synthesisers manufactured by the Yamaha Corporation. Released in the summer of 2015, the series is inspired by the company’s previously released synthesisers. It handled well in all these circumstances and it delivered great sounds and easily customizable parameters. The interface is all dedicated knobs and switches, so you just flip a toggle to enable/disable the effect that you want and then dial in the effects settings. The effects are tailored to the CP’s keyboard types and bring to mind some classic 70’s effects pedals and an early digital reverb. There are three main audiences for mini keyboards. The Reface CP is a pretty good fit for all three:

The effects are a real bonus here. Arranged in series, all can be active at once and their transformational potential is huge. Firstly, there’s drive with its piano-specific tonality, to which you add tremolo or wah, chorus or phaser, followed by analogue-style or digital delay, finally bathing the whole lot in reverb. The chorus is lovely, the phaser almost as good and the tremolo shifts to a swimmy stereo whenever the Rd and CP types are selected. The digital delay at its maximum depth repeats for an eternity, while the analogue delay becomes duller with progressive repeats. The shortest delay times are very short and impressively boingy. It’s quite an armoury to have within reach and the only minor criticism I have is a physical one: the switches were a bit flimsy and one needed an occasional wiggle to wake it up. Conclusion To sum up - an impressive little keyboard that contains sounds that can compete with more expensive, full-size EPs. If you want an extremely portable, yet high-quality EP emulator, then look no further! Continuous sustain pedal input for half-damper effect and increasing sustain as you depress the pedal The speakers will still be engaged if you connect cables to the L/Mono and R Outputs. If you want to disable the speakers, do this: But it's so simple and intuitive, focused in its scope, and sounds so amazing that I don't really care.

Thanks to its maturecircuitry, thesound is warm and rich and has all the artefacts and intricacies of the original. Thesounds available on the CP offer many of the bread n' butter, basic go to sounds for a keyboard player.Connected to all these sounds is a drive knob that has a different amp model that matches depending on what patch you have chosen. Reface CP - an emulation of vintage electric pianos. The CP has six sound models taken from Yamaha's CP4 stage piano: a Rhodes Mk.1, a Rhodes Mk.2, a Wurlitzer, a Clavinet, a Yamaha CP80 and a toy piano. [9] The keyboard has a maximum polyphony of 128 notes. The Reface CP also has an effects engine that includes drive, phaser, tremolo, delay, reverb and chorus effects. [12]Reface Capture– this is an iOS patch librarian. We could not test it, because it was not available in time for this review. Because the Reface CP has such a user-friendly front-panel, we don’t see much of a need for patch librarian. Soundmondo offers creative possibilities to create, share and discover sounds. The connection is established intuitively using a special Web MIDI technology for Google Chrome. As soon as a reface model is plugged in, it offers the possibility of direct synchronisation. Voices and set lists can be stored in a private area as well as shared with the community. The build quality is ok. It's obviously not built like a tank but it's better than most in this price range. I'm sure it will last many, many years if taken good care of. Users that want a mobile keyboard for portability or compactness – the CP offers great sounds in a mini keyboard that you can take anywhere. A looper is present here too, and it’s very similar to that of the DX, just without the benefit of a screen. The main limitation is that this looper must always start with a note and recording is ended by the rather awkward movement of the slider from record to play position at the correct time.

The tone of the instrument is great especially if you decide to hook it on a pair of nearfield monitors for practice, like i did. All the voices are great and usable except the Toy-Piano which i didn't find appealing at all. I can't imagine how this sound can fit in any mix, but that's just me. The built-in speakers are also very impressive in terms of sound quality. The stereo tremolo when combined with the Rhodes sounds is enjoyable and eargasmic. All effects are very responsive and most important easy to tweak while playing. The interface is super simple and a no-brainer, just the way it should be. Once you’ve selected the keyboard type you want to play, you can add effects using the five effects sections:People, use your imagination, you can take this very small keyboard virtually everywhere and compose, dream away or even showing off. Each keyboard type matches a carefully chosen Drive and Tremolo setting to provide an incredibly musical pairing Overall, very pleased with this instrument and its features from a home practice, live and studio perspective. There isn’t a modulation wheel, but when playing from an external keyboard, the mod wheel is mapped to LFO depth. One slight oddity you should be aware of concerns pitch-bend: while the built-in pitch-bender’s action is smooth, the equivalent action from an external source is far from it.
