While these paints were traditionally the choice of professionals, advances in water-based options mean that today many will use both, or have moved to water-based entirely. It’s a high opacity water-based paint - making it easy to clean brushes - that gives good coverage, is low odour, and will be touch dry within 30 minutes. In fact, some boots that look the part may as well be a pair of sandals if a hammer or power tool was to drop on your foot. If you’re an ace drywall finisher and your walls are perfectly smooth, you can use a standard drywall primer-sealer. It is suitable for use on internal concrete, steel and wooden floors in light to medium traffic areas and can also be used outside to highlight walkways, car park spaces and other markings but is not suitable for use on large external areas.

Painting MDF isn't necessarily the same process as painting a wall either, when it comes to getting the best finish.Undercoat paint is intended to create a smooth and adhesive surface, onto which a standard paint can be applied. Look for “100 percent acrylic” on the label, and make sure the wood surface is clean, dry and dull (no sheen).
