About this deal

It's a shame because there are some great, sensitively written sections ( eg, how to talk to someone who is going through IVF) but most of it is super specific (eg, how to get a dentist's appointment through the NHS. Beauty and Health are lumped together which is a disappointment considering beauty is where she made her name, and the health tips are GP tips way beyond her pay grade - how to cure cystitis, treat anxiety or do a breast check. If there is anyone's advice I'm going to follow with regard to skincare and beauty purchases, it is hers. But this book gets even worse as the author dispenses "advice" on abortions , breastfeeding and depression which is inappropriate and she is totally unqualified to do so. My favourites are Bobbi Brown’s Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick in ‘Taupe’ or ‘Sand Dune’, or the Vieve Eye Wand in ‘Old Gold’ or ‘Coffee’.

If I told my mates I was going to publish a book about how to organise a kitchen and trim a candle wick, I'd like to think they'd set me straight. Not only is it a quick reference guide that can be dipped in and out of, but it's a cosy and comforting read that you can curl up with after a long day. The Friends and Relationships chapter was interesting because if you follow Sali you might know bits of her personal life so I'm sure some of the advice is based on personal experience. At the moment I’m using Shiseido’s Ultimune Defence Refresh Mist and I’m also a paid-up subscriber to Skin+Me, which sends me a tretinoin, niacinamide and azelaic acid cream each month.Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). Although the concept of the book may seem rigid, Hughes dispenses her advice with humour, and switches between the seemingly inconsequential to the big topics with ease. The content could have been so easily contained in a short pamphlet - Wear sunscreen, don't be a slave to fashion and this is how you cook pasta. But I try to stick to a light cleanser in the morning followed by a serum with some combination of vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide.

Biography: Sali Hughes is a leading journalist, presenter and broadcaster with over 24 years' experience. Was lucky to go and hear Sali Hughes' wise words in person (in possibly the best-coiffed, most fragrant talk I've been to).Although the concept of the book may seem rigid Hughes dispenses her advice with humour, and switrches between the seemingly inconsequential to the big topics with ease. It’s an extremely sheer skin booster that looks great on its own on those ‘no make-up’ days, or as a priming undercoat for foundation. The interesting thing is that occasionally we see flashes of vulnerability and signs of personal growth (when Sali talks about revisiting her childhood home, her father's hoarding, and her own parenting). That's why, when I created my skincare line Sali Hughes x Revolution, I wanted to give them something straightforward: here are the ingredients you need in your skincare, and here is what to use and when.

I enjoyed Sali Hughes’ first couple of books - which genuinely shared useful information drawn from her expertise and experience as a beauty journalist, make up artist and beauty fan. That’s why I spent two years creating my own skincare line – my friends were telling me they were confused by modern skincare. I did enjoy the personal stories that were shared, such as finding out about her childhood, her father's hoarding and personal life, but these were far and few between.

My all-time favourites are tubing mascaras (which use polymers instead of the traditional and more smudgy waxes and dyes) – either Estée Lauder Double Wear or Clinique Lash Power, because they just don’t budge. Rose Inc’s new Solar Radiance in ‘Glancing’ or ‘Prismatic’ is subtle and creamy, and Victoria Beckham’s Reflect Highlighter Stick gives a very pretty glazed finish to the skin that looks great with a red lip. I must have bought at least 20 M·A·C Lipliners in ‘Subculture’ in my time – there’s one in every bag and drawer.and lists the thirty-seven foodstuffs that she considers essential to have in your kitchen cupboard. Had it leaned more into the personal stories and their relevance to the topics this could have been so much better. My favourites are Charlotte Tilbury’s The Classic Dark Brown Powder Eye Pencil, which has a foolproof and very flattering softness to it, the Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal in ‘Cocoa’ (you need to leave it a minute to set before blending) and Hindash's Eye Tone in ‘Intra’. My most worn at the moment are Lyn Harris’s Perfumer H Rain Wood, Glossier You, Heeley’s L’Amandière, Celine’s Nightclubbing, Frederic Malle’s Synthetic Jungle and Sisley’s Eau de Campagne. Often the only moisturisers that work on very dry skin like mine are the thick, medical or expensive ones.
