Get Set! Piano - Get Set! Piano – My First Piano Book – Collins

The author’s tried-and-tested progression covers note learning, theory, aural and composing through a. You need not only to have a series of beginner piano books to work from, but you need to be prepared to cultivate your own piano method based on what you believe is most valuable from each individual book. I’ve found your site to be really helpful and I wondered if you had a template or a suggestion as to where I could find the little animals you have here for the first lesson? He originally played the piano in the episode Caillou's Got Rhythm (even though he tried before he played the drum that Grandma made for him). I’m sure anyone teaching for any length of time has figured this out by now, but it’s worth mentioning here.

Pianobook – Cultivating a community centered around sound.

I find a practice chart inside their practice book, with the days of the week for a parent to tick off works well, with perhaps an agreed treat as a reward on completion. Some of the pieces included in this series, especially at the intermediate level, are not full pieces, and simply snippets from larger works. E for ELEPHANT comes next, find all the elephants by hopping up and down the keyboard, noticing that it comes on the other side of the 2 black keys. My First Piano Book (or Le Petit Pianiste in French) is a Caillou book that was released on September 25, 2017. This is the first book that I’ve featured in this article that is geared towards the older beginner; either a teenager or an adult, it’s suitable for both.

However, my main concern with this book is that it is overwhelmingly focused on sight-reading, which while being a key skill a student should learn, is not the only aspect of playing piano, and I would have liked to see more actual pieces that the student would be able to learn. Try to emphasise that there are actually only 7 notes to learn, it’s just the same 7 notes repeated over and over so this makes it easier to remember. This doesn’t provide a visually engaging experience for the student and unfortunately, may lead to them becoming bored. The books are designed to introduce young children (from the age of around five) to the piano and music-making through ‘fun activities, rhymes, songs and pieces. This is a good idea, and it allows for a much more complete experience as the publishers aren’t just trying to cram everything into one book. Depending on the age and attention span of your child or the child you are teaching, to make it easier this lesson can be broken up into two sections which introduces C-D-E-F first, and then G-A-B the next time. Any brand will do; I’ve recommended one down below, but you can pick this up from any good music retailer. This is probably the best piano method for those piano students; it’s clear that most beginner piano methods are geared towards children, and these books are not suitable for more mature students who wish to learn the piano from scratch.

Review: Get Set! Piano - My First Piano Book - David Barton Music

It does a very good job of explaining concepts such as sight-reading and theory, and putting them into practice by providing good exercises to practice what the student has learned. since I learnt how to play the piano by ear (was not trained by anyone), I have been pretty clueless on how to teach him in a way that is engaging and fun! What also sets this series apart is that it seems to have been designed for busy people who might not have 30 minutes to an hour each day to sit down and practice. I felt the book could sometimes be a little too childish; it’s great for five to seven year olds but I think a child above that age will feel it’s been geared to younger children and will lose interest.

However, this book has worked for students for decades, and as long as your student is engaged through other means, this may not be a problem. It makes the dexterity for the left hand easier and maybe he might find the right hand takes a little more practice, but either way, its very good for both. In the exam you perform three pieces, play scales and arpeggios and take sight-reading and aural tests. There is a one-year overlap period, during which you can play repertoire from the previous syllabus.
