About this deal

It’s a curious thing really, telling a bit of a story, without explicitly telling the viewer what’s going on. This combination of image sharpness and beautiful bokeh delivers portraits with a three-dimensional feel. Remember that they have been resized for the web and the nature of compression that comes with that. It’s far from busy, and you will be able to separate your subject from the environment with these lenses.

Fujifilm 56mm F1.2 R WR (Mark II) Review

R WR lens has an internal focusing (IF) system that uses a DC linear motor, which results in pleasingly fast and accurate auto-focusing on the X-H2/S camera that we tested it with. and again offer the some of the shallowest depth of field options for their respective systems with autofocus capabilities. It has an aperture ring with detents at 1/3 stop intervals, but unlike the company's wide angle primes, no distance or depth of field scales. That said when shooting city lights at night, closing down the seven-sided iris of the 56mm delivered nicer-looking starburst effects than the Nocticron. This lens is not Fujifilm’s fastest focusing lens (which I discuss later), and it is not weather-sealed, as is Fuji’s newer XF50mmF2 R WR lens.

Fujifilm XF 56mm F1.2 R WR Review | Photography Blog

On recent cameras you can expect pretty snappy focus, but less snappy than either of the Red Badge zooms that hit this focal length, or the smaller XF 50mm F2 WR. We got to try the lens out for a couple of hours shooting professional models at Fujikina in New York - and we think the amazing results it delivers wide open speak for themselves. My only negative comment here is that I would prefer the aperture ring to require a touch more tension to adjust it. The filter thread measures 62mm, making it smaller than the 67mm thread on the Nocticron, but wider than the 58mm thread on the Canon EF 85mm f1. where the cats-eye shape and outlining is clear, but equally notice the absence of concentric rings inside the shapes. This makes it a more complex design than, say, the nine elements / seven groups of the Canon EF 85mm f1. I’ll come out and say it now that I’d probably go as far to say that this is the perfect portrait lens for the Fujifilm X Series.
