About this deal

A deadly heatwave sweeping across Europe with temperatures forecast to shatter records in the coming days stands in complete contrast to the weather faced by the United Kingdom that has had wet and windy conditions continuing this week. If you are in the UK today, you will notice the higher winds which are not associated with a high-pressure feature and therefore not allowing conducive heatwave conditions explaining why UK temperatures are not anomalously warm like the rest of Europe. The melodic summer anthem-in-waiting infuses tropical, rhythmic beats, sailing along on a shimmering string section and The Reverend’s renowned smooth lyricism, it all combines to make a statement of intent for their forthcoming album.

The soulful yet psychedelic ‘High’ is a hazy Curtis Mayfield sounding track that references perhaps their most famous song with the line ‘Never been champion of the world’ has an irresistible refrain and some elegant backing vocals from Laura McClure who also excels on keys throughout the album. The UK, on the other hand, finds itself under the influence of a different weather pattern that has brought in more rain and thus pulled down temperatures after the country got its hottest June on record, pointed out experts. Concise, optimistic and uplifting, it includes lead singles ‘Problems’, ‘High’, ‘Heatwave in the Cold North’, and the emotive ‘A Letter To My 21 Year Old Self’ which has formed part of a wider project headed up by frontman Jon McClure. The band will also be hitting the road for their first UK tour in four years in 2023 kicking off at Brighton Concorde 2 on February 2, with a stop at London’s Islington Assembly Hall before the show wraps up with two homecoming shows in Sheffield.

Until we rapidly reduce emissions from fossil fuels, extremes like the heatwave we are seeing in Europe at the moment are going to become more and more likely,” Dr Mabon said. Dr Melissa Lazenby, a climate change lecturer at the University of Sussex, explained that the current placement of a high-pressure system located further south is the primary reason for this divergence. This album comes hot on the tail of the success of the band's recent single 'Heatwave In The Cold North'. But a new anticyclone dubbed Charon, who in Greek mythology was the ferryman of the dead, pushed into the region from north Africa on Sunday and could lift temperatures above 45 Celsius (113 Fahrenheit) in parts of Italy early this week.

As they look set to imminently release their 7th studio album, the Sheffield based stalwarts Reverend and the Makers have become one of the enduring and consistent voices running through the British music scene.Spain, Italy and Greece have been experiencing scorching temperatures for several days already, damaging agriculture and leaving tourists scurrying for shade.
