No Escape: A gripping, escapist crime thriller, now a major TV series for Paramount+

Some of the No Escape story is told in flashbacks as it follows best friends Lana (Abigail Lawrie) and Kitty (Rhianne Barreto) who have fled the UK, on the run from the law. With this as a background, Clarke is able to draw a reader in, and then keep my interest with her tales of romance and suspense. If I had to compare it, off-the-top of my head I would say it's 'somewhat' similar to The Woman In Cabin 10 but I think The Blue- characters, plot, everything is a thousand times better. It’s helped by the lush, tropical landscapes which provide the series’ background – the show was filmed in some of Thailand’s most idyllic locations. Flashbacks to various key points in this friendship are what anchor the story and give their characters some solidity.

As they fall deeper into this transient, nomadic life, the characters drink and party themselves into oblivion, refusing to give up their own personal ‘paradise’, and refusing to acknowledge that they are ultimately imprisoned by it. Rhianne Barreto previously starred in the BBC1 comedy series The Outlaws, alongside Stephen Merchant and Christopher Walken. So presumably the ultimate ‘Authority’ determining the disposal of Joseph’s case would be a coroner’s court in Auckland whose only evidence would have been whatever the crew of the The Blue told them. Beach and vacation are not a requirement but I believe they would definitely heighten the enjoyment of the subject matter.The book then jumps back a few months to our main character Lana and her best friend Kitty, leaving the UK and heading to the Philippines.
