About this deal

A kid describes what happens when a giant fluorescent orange octopus lands on their house and cannot be moved away. Since, little kids tend to remember things easier if they have more hands on materials, I thought having the octopus visible in every video was a great way for the students to interact with one another.

The final twist didn't feel super satisfying (like if it was demonstrated earlier that the neighbors had specific problems that the twist would solve), it just happened. This resource contains an excellent octopus facts sheet to go along with the comprehension worksheet, so you have everything you need to teach your kids about this fascinating animal. The octopus is super bright orange so he definitely stands out but there are also lots of other small characters doing different things. It’s good to be back with a children’s book review this week, all about Octopus Shocktopus by Peter Bently and Steven Lenton. Sure to be a winner with children – the rhyming text is fantastic to read aloud and the quirky story makes it impossible to guess what will happen next. Sunglasses at the ready – this book has zingy fluorescent ink on the cover and inside illustrations. All of the readers showed a lot of facial expressions, using multiple facial expressions can allow students to see and connect with what was going on throughout the story.

I came across this book during world book day, and it sparked different conversations in the class I was teaching about what they would do with the octopus if it were to live on top of their house. There was no demonstrated "winning over" of the grumpy neighbor - she didn't like him on one page, but out of nowhere just liked the octopus on the following. Ik moest heerlijk lachen om het verhaal, hoe het begon met mm, wat moeten we met een octopus ging naar een verhaal waar hij helemaal deel is van de familie en ook de mensen van het dorp niet zonder hem konden. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The Children’s Book Award is the only national award for children’s books that is voted for entirely by children.

It’s both a cosy and silly read, perfect for bedtime and any other time of the day when a story is needed.

I recently finished "Remarkably Bright Creatures: A Novel" and am in the middle of an Octy Obsession! A massive thank you to all the children who voted and to the Federation organisers – knowing that this award has been chosen by children themselves makes it truly special. When a giant octopus arrives, the children LOVE their new friend; he makes the perfect slide and is fantastic at football! It begins with an octopus landing on a house and a neighbour clearly stating ‘An octopus does NOT belong.

His books have won awards such as the Sainsbury s Children’s Book Award and have been selected for the WHSmith’s Children’s Book of the Year and Tom Fletcher Book Club. Maybe they're writing stories and they want a cool animal to be a character, or maybe they want to make an octopus out of paper, the applications of this knowledge are endless. Instead of printing double sided and having the option to print the answers separately at the end is needed. tells the story of a huge, orange octopus that one day appears on the roof of a young family’s house – and, despite the best efforts of the fire brigade, it seems determined to stay there! Slightly disturbing is the fact that these house-enveloping octopuses look kinda impaled on all the roofs.
