Description

The outside of the apartment has some necessary-feeling railings and a couple of telescopes. I wasn’t able to find anything to indicate how true-to-life these details are, but they seem pretty reasonable.

Parts that caught my eye in this box were these Roller Coaster ramp pieces. This the their first appearance in dark grey, and you’ll get 8 of them. Equipment Telescope / Torch / Spyglass (6396412 | 64644) is one of those elements of which I’m surprised it didn’t exist already in this colour.

Aesthetics

I'm mostly with HOBBES here. While there are these solutions, they don't work in all cases. Here it's very much helped by the sheer size of the thing, so building an entire section upside-down and putting another section on top is fine. But in a smaller build such pieces could really help. These beams attach with clips to a square plate base, with Technic beams that will be used to join the four sections together. Note the yellow 2×2 triangle tile – that’s one of the colored elements I was mentioning.

While LEGO is targeting a very specific type of customer with 10307 Eiffel Tower (affluent, has enough space and wants a 1.5m Eiffel Tower to build and display), ultimately, I’m glad the set exists. The box is absolutely huge and features the 18+ / ‘Adults Welcome’ branding along the bottom edge — which seems very appropriate for size of this scale. The color of that band is 199 Dark Stone Grey Dark Bluish Gray, which makes sense since almost every piece inside the box is in that color! It would be even cooler if the build process mirrors how the actual building was built in some way. I do not know whether a central support structure was employed or not, but I hope we learn detailed information about the real building in the building instructions. Whether or not you decide it deserves the title as the ‘largest LEGO set’, #10307 Eiffel Tower is a massive undertaking that has a towering presence in any room. More than any previous LEGO set, it makes the jump from LEGO model to serious home decor — That’s why the real question for many builders is not about whether this is an impressive LEGO set, but rather if they have a safe and suitable place in their home to display it.Over the next 11 bags, we build the second removeable module of our growing Eiffel Tower model. The next module has the shape of a pyramid with the top cut off, which is called an Frustum. (I’m continuing to use this article to teach the names of obscure geometric shapes — Enjoy!)

At 10,001 pieces, this is a long build, and it’s not recommended to blitz through it, and I’m pleased to say that I actually had a really enjoyable time building it, going so far as to say that the build itself IS one of the main drawcards of the set. There are 74 (!!) numbered bags in the LEGO Eiffel Tower, which is the most I’ve ever encountered in a set.Bar Holder with Hole and Bar Handle (6397633 | 23443) is new, and comes in strong with a whopping 660 parts!
