This Bourbon has been aged for six years and is one of the most recognisable whisky brands in the world.

The Black edition from Jim Beam is a marriage of whiskeys aged for 8 years before bottling at 43%, slightly higher than the standard bourbon proof, proffering greater complexity. I get a little honey, vanilla, roasted oak, licorice, apricot, peanut shell, toasted grain, red apple peel, and a little bit of fresh cherry. It puts a fresh, bright shine on the classic taste of bourbon that's perfect for both summer sessions and simple shots.I like a majority of what Jim Beam Black has to offer, but it also has so much missed potential that keeps it away from “Mid Shelf+”.

There are 11 different bourbon choices in my cabinet and I would be happy to keep a regular bottle of Jim Beam black in the lineup. I can somewhat forgive the lighter scents, which occasionally teeter on being non-existent for some reason, because the flavors do a good job of providing the usual range of “bourbon-y” flavors with a little extra sweetness and fruitiness. I have far too much fun writing about whiskey and singlehandedly running The Whiskey Shelf to bring you independent, honest, and useful reviews, comparisons, and more. It was aged in charred oak barrels and bottled at a full 86 proof creating a bourbon of truly distinctive character.

For seven generations now, the Jim Beam distillery has been distilling bourbon whiskeys, world-famous for their quality. The extra age seems to add more sweetness, fruitiness, and body, making it an upgrade to Jim Beam White. Jim Beam Black label is a double aged whiskey that has been aged for 6 years in charred oak casks and is bottled at 86 proof.Overall, it’s a bit thin on mouthfeel and flavors, with the traditional bourbon flavors of vanilla, oak, and caramel coming through, but not leading to much complexity. v=1633717868","options":["Size"],"media":[{"alt":null,"id":20561718214707,"position":1,"preview_image":{"aspect_ratio":1. This Jim Beam Black miniature’s four-cornered bottle is unlike any other miniature you can gift for a friend or treat a family to a different experience. Shattered glass really sucks, so if you’re on the move, this Glencairn-like stainless steel snifter glass should survive your travels. More than 200 years of experience-along with corn, rye, water, malted barley, and passion-goes into every bottle. I’ve seen both versions, and recently found (and bought) a handle of the 8 year for old time’s sake.

Because Jim Beam Black is the upgraded version, my guess is that it’s also 4 years old but blended with older (and better) bourbon that would not go into Jim Beam White. A full box also helps to reduce the small chance of damage, as empty compartments collapsing can be a cause of this. For some products supply can be inconsistent, whether that is at the brewery itself or how often we or its supplier imports it.
