On the downside, this cool box is somewhat expensive compared to similar products on the market. Additionally, it requires that items be pre-chilled before placing them inside to achieve the best cooling results. Lastly, the cool box is rather bulky and can take up a considerable amount of space in the car. The Klarstein BeerBelly 29 Electric Cool Box boasts a 29-litre capacity, which proved to be more than enough space for all our food and drinks. However, I did notice that it became quite heavy when filled to capacity, making it a bit challenging to carry, especially for a considerable distance. The BERG Large Electric Portable 45 Litre Cool/Warm Cooler Box has been an excellent addition to my camping and beach trips. With its 45L capacity, I can store up to 72 standard 330ml cans, making it perfect for outings with friends and family. Its cooling capabilities are impressive, reaching 16°C below ambient temperature, and the heating function is a fantastic bonus, especially when transporting hot takeaway food.

A 20 litre capacity is not going to set the world on fire if you’re planning a long trip, but it’s ample for a night or two away. Hi-Gear make cheap, dependable equipment and we were impressed with the quality of plastic used on this cooler. It looks more expensive than it is!

It is essential that you are aware that this is a budget cool box and not as sturdy as the Vango or Outwell. You do need to be careful of the handle as the side pin it can disconnect connect and snap. Mine has after several years and many camping trips. It was may fault as I was not being particularly careful and I tried to lift not realising that is was caught on something.

There is no drainage plug for water collection in the base. It seems to collect more water, but it’s not a major issue. It also features two removable shelves inside so you have plenty of space for anything – from your favorite beer to a good old Cornish pasty! The cool box’s cooling performance exceeded my expectations. Even though it is not a full fridge replacement, it managed to keep my food and drinks chilled at 18°C below the ambient temperature. This was more than enough to ensure that everything stayed cold and fresh during our trip.

In my search for the best electric cool box, I’ve analysed various options available in the market. I focused on efficiency, reliability, and convenience factors. It is essential to consider these features to ensure that the electric cool box suits one’s needs. The cheapest cool box in our recommendation is the HI-GEAR 20L Cooler. It is another 12V only system which can cool food and drinks to around the 10°C mark. For the money, it’s excellent value and has a few extra little design touches we like. They use the Peltier method, which transfers heat between two electrical junctions, which creates the cooling function. Thermoelectric cool boxes have a fan that can either draw warm out from inside via a vent or draw warm air inside via another vent—allowing food to be kept cool or warm to outside temperatures. The best cool boxes keep the contents chilled better for longer. The best electric cool boxes cooled the chilled bottles of water to an even lower temperature by the end of the day than when we put them in. Leakproof Thermoelectric cool boxes will not freeze food. Food will gradually defrost. However, it can remain frozen for 3-4 days, depending on the following factors. Most importantly, Waeco is now part of the Dometic cool boxes brand, so the same quality standards are applied to these ultra-portable solutions as they are to Dometic cool boxes. Mains-powered boxes are more powerful, but 12V in-car electric coolers are ideal for keeping in your motor for road trips and commutes.
