I wish she had more character development because she seems more like a shadow to Arthur and wouldn’t be missed if her character disappeared from the story. They went on their own “Brightstorm adventures”, imagining they were travelling to South Polaris, meeting Thought Wolves and escaping from Eurdora Vane! It was details and additions such as these that really added to the adventure and excitement of the story and that made me enjoy it as much as I did.However their home, reputation and future are lost after the Geographical Society’s ruling and they are sent to live and work in the Slumps. This story starts off with the Brightstorm twins finding out that their father has likely been killed in an accident (not a spoiler, it's in the synopsis! Steam-punk is a retrofuturistic subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that uses technology and artistic designs motivated by 19th century industrial steam-powered machinery.

It probably has a slightly younger target audience, but the adventure components are there and the airships, animals, and general exploratory adventure that they embark on all gave me those His Dark Material vibes. Stripped of their home and inheritance, the Brightstorms are essentially sold off by their de facto legal guardian as housekeepers to the Beggins, a malevolent pair of busybodies occupying a poorer section of Lontown known as the Drips.For our twins, this book provides a mirror of their own world with a relationship they understand so well. Our team is made up of book lovers who are dedicated to sourcing and providing the best books for kids. I'm of course all in favor for strong girls who are geniuses at mechanis, like Maudie and Harriet, but it's also lovely to see a boy like Arthur, who isn't particular gifted at pracitcal, boy-coded things find his own gifts of intuition, observation, and thoughtful communication. Just like us, they look out for each other, care about each other, encourage each other, and even tease each other.
