L’univers est exactement comme je les aime : merveilleux, magique, original, réconfortant, et j’en passe!As a whole the book successfully mixes the cute and funny with a sense of magic and adventure, and I think it could make a lot of middle grade readers happy. The story doesn’t end in this volume, and I think I’d like to continue, if only for the beautiful illustrations.

For fans of Amulet and middle grade readers who love sweeping worlds like Star Wars, the first book of the Lightfall series introduces Bea and Cad, two unlikely friends who get swept up in an epic quest to save their world from falling into eternal darkness. As the duo continue their quest the reader learns a little more about Alfrid alongside a larger narrative about a mythical bird and the sun, which does feel rather rushed by the final act, though hints at what’s to unfold in the sequel. But she is also a hero, jumping in when she is needed, bravely fighting off foes and having cold feet (literally) along the way.
