About this deal

This paint is an evolution of the old Johnstone’s Aqua Satinwood which is still available to buy. At one point, the Aqua satinwood was the brand leader in “water-based satin” amongst professional decorators at one point. However, it is a hybrid and comes with a few issues. The Aqua Guard is much better. You must use the correct system, so bare timber should be primed using an acrylic primer. Then you should use the Johnstone’s Aqua undercoat, followed by at least one coat of Aqua Guard. Previously painted surfaces take a coat of Aqua undercoat, followed by the satinwood. Johnstone’s Trade Aqua Guard Satin is a fully water-based satinwood designed for internal woodwork. The benefits of this over the Aqua Satinwood are; this is more durable and will not yellow at all. Not that the Aqua is a bad system, but it does come with its problems.

The Two Fussy Blokes is widely regarded as the best roller to apply water-based paint. Use the 5mm nap mini roller to paint any flat areas and you’ll get close to a spray finish. This is the perfect partnership for Aqua Guard. Available online. Each product gives you the application and feel of a solvent-based product, whilst delivering the benefits of a water-based product. Ultimatly you'll be rewarded with a superior finish you can be proud of, every time. A lot of decorators who try Johnstone’s Aqua for the first time do not get on with it. This isn’t down to the paint being poor quality, but more to do with the decorator not knowing how to apply the product correctly. So I am wondering about how well Floetrol would work with the Aqua Guard. As I say, the Johnstones already seems very different to the Dulux so I don't know if there might be some technical reasons why the Floetrol might not provide much benefit, or even be detrimental. Obviously I could do more experimenting but I was hoping to hear from someone who might have practical experience on a larger scale. A hybrid is a compromise on just about every issue I have just mentioned. The paint will yellow, but it’ll stay white a lot longer than an oil-based. It is more durable than water-based, but not as durable as oil. It is easier to control than water, but not as easy as oil. The list goes on!!

Apply one full coat of Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water Based Undercoat to all correctly prepared and primed surfaces before applying two full coats of Aqua Guard Satin OK, we’ve talked about the prep and the undercoat, let’s have a look at the main product. The Aqua Guard is easy to use, has great opacity and will not ruin your brushes. One of the issues you experience when using most water-based satinwood products is visible brush and roller marks. Not with Aqua Guard!! Anyone can achieve a great finish with this paint!! Brush marks just seem to melt away.Johnstone's Trade Aqua Guard Satin - Brilliant White is available in 3 sizes including, 1L, 2.5L and 5L and delivers long-lasting durability with a touch dry time of 1-2 hours and is recoatable after 4 hours.

This is pointless and by adding water to the product you speed up the drying process, which makes it difficult to apply. What you can do is skim over your woodwork with a damp sponge just before you apply the paint. The paint then flies on and is a joy to use! People are always looking to cut a corner, but you really can’t when using Johnstone’s Aqua. You should always apply a full coat of Aqua undercoat prior to using the Aqua gloss or satin. This is for a few reasons, including adhesion and adding durability to your painted surface. Not just that, but the Aqua satin and gloss always sits nicely on top of the undercoat to give a better finish. All surfaces to be painted should be clean, dry and free from loose and flaking material. Rub down previously painted surfaces with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinse thoroughly. Avoid the inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Prime bare wood with Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water Based Undercoat. Prime all other bare surfaces with the appropriate Johnstone's Trade Primer. Apply one full coat of Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water based Undercoat to all correctly prepared and primed surfaces before application of Johnstone's Trade Aqua Guard Satin. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparations of pre-1960's paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead. Featuring an innovative surface protection technology, Johnstone's Trade Aqua Guard Satin has been designed to protect interior surfaces against scratches, wear & tear and finger marks. A durable water based paint, this brilliant white also features advanced application qualities, extending overall working time, covering powering and long lasting whiteness. Another point is washing your brush after the job. Remember Johnstone’s Aqua satin and gloss products do contain a small amount of oil, so water alone will not be enough to clean out of your paintbrush. Clean Spirit is designed to clean hybrid paints so that is your best option, but virosol will also work. In fact, white spirit will do the job too. Clean what paint you can from the brush using clean or soapy water, then use one of the three products I’ve just mentioned to finish the job off, dead easy!!Another quality of the Aqua Guard is you can apply generous coats and not experience much in the way of sagging or runs. Again, this is normally an issue when using water-based. Highly durable and protecting against every day wear and tear, Johnstone's Trade Aqua Guard Satin paint - Brilliant White is ideal for using on interior wood and metal surfaces.

The normal procedure would be one coat of undercoat followed by two topcoats, whether going over previously painted or pre-primed. Three coat systems over previously painted surfaces are the norm for most water-based paints. There are a few products out there which only need two. We also deliver to the majority of non mainland UK locations including The scottish Highlands & islands, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Isles of Scilly and Northern Ireland. Please see full delivery terms for the extra charges associated with these locations
