The important moral at the end of the story will encourage children to respect other people’s property and to stay safe. Claire Wilson is another agent from the RCW Literary Agency in London. Specifically, she started in 2007 and eventually got promoted to director eight years later. If that wasn’t impressive enough, Claire is also the VP of the Association of Authors’ Agents. The Hyde Park Squirrels‘ are very good reads and probably one of the best collection published this year. I liked the engaging stories and also the powerful illustrations because they’re not simple and not so common. They’re absolutely gorgeous to look at and full of details.

If you love London half as much as I do, you cannot get enough reading about this great city that keeps us all hooked up. It was about time that we create a comprehensive list of well known children’s books about London. Enjoy! Here’s London Mums’ favourite children’s books about the British Capital. Beatrice and the London Bus book series In the first of this new series for children, Luke leaves the cosy warmth of his life in the country and heads to London in search of his long lost sister. Along the way, Luke faces the cold, the wind and the rain and a less than well-meaning cat. But with the help of some new friends he is delighted to finally find his Uncle George – General MacDonald – living in a big palace in Hyde Park. In the last gasp of local second-hand bookstores about 10 years ago I happened across this strange volume on display. It immediately caught my eye and stirred my love for 50's and 60's illustration, architecture and cities. It is a battered hardcover from 1959, the first printing, and it has the wonderful old book smell. It looks as if it was loved, and it has managed to find another lover in my partner and myself, and our future children too.

Children don't want to leave (in fact, one of ours has asked for a birthday party in the shop), and you can walk away with almost any book your child wants for under a fiver. You'll also find foreign language books, American children's authors (Shel Silverstein, Mo Willems), and gorgeously illustrated reference and picture books you'll want to buy for yourself.

Perfect picture books

Barton’squirky and comic illustrations bring to life the journey from the comfort of his familiar university surroundings into the hectic bustle of central London. This year we will gift over 100,000 books to children via their schools and settings. The vast majority of these come from families happy to find new homes for the books their children have grown out of. Our volunteers help us by sourcing, collecting and sorting thousands of donated books which are then re-distributed free of charge and in the most compelling ways to young people with few books of their own. We work closely with women’s groups, children’s centres and schools to gift gently used books to children across London and the rest of the country, forging links with settings whose communities may benefit most from access to free books. In every instance we work with a provider to help them plan the most creative and enjoyable book gifting event. View the sights of London with this mother-daughter duo visiting the city for the day.
